The Best of Jamie's Column: That's What Friends Are For

The sun was shining that day when, alone in a field of green grass, the sweet smell of summer filled the
air around me. I stood listening to the wind as it blew about, engulfing me and the tall blades of wild
greenery that spread out before me like a moving sea. I was filled with an inner stillness as I beheld the
beauty of simplicity, of wonder and calmness. The clouds overhead were full and billowing as they moved
to cover the rays of the radiant sun. So filled with peace in that moment, I couldn't move.

I was in a state of bliss as the power and beauty of nature entranced me. The wind blew harder and I felt
the cares and concerns of the world leaving my mind. I felt so alive while standing there, alone, no one
around to interfere with my connection to the Presence. God was here, peace was here. In this place I felt
safe and joyful. In this place I felt reconnected to all that created the universe. I suddenly felt led to lay
down in the tall grass that swayed about my knees. I stretched my arms open wide, looked into the sky
overhead, and felt my entire being swell with gratitude for this moment in time to let go and to just be.
How long had it been since I had allowed myself to surrender to the moment and totally relax in the arms
of Spirit? The clouds danced as if just for me while I lay there with my heart and soul open to their depth
and intensity. My soul soared, my heart sang, and I reached up with my arms towards the heavens.....

This is one of my favorite meditations to do when I'm feeling weary and out of sorts. In my mind I stand in
that field and call upon the Lord God of my being to come and surround me with healing, peaceful
Presence. I am always filled with such gratitude when I can call upon the healing energy of the universe
to come and, within an instant, it does. Funny how we can forget our connection to Spirit when we are out
and about in the everyday world of stress and obligations. We become disoriented and fearful about what
life is handing us from one moment to the next. When I forget my connection to truth, the demands of
doing what is mine to do become stressful rather than peaceful. When we can remember to breath and
call upon the Presence of all that is Godly and good, then we can also move about our lives with great
ease and joy. How many times must we be reminded that the choice is always ours. Within each of us lies
the power to create our experience from moment to moment. We may complain about the situations we
find ourselves in from time to time, but it is when we can honestly own our God given power to have
created the circumstances we are experiencing, as co-creators with God, that we can change what we no
longer wish to have in our experiences. We are far more powerful than we realize. When you are feeling
overwhelmed by life, stop for just a moment and turn to that place of inner stillness that lies within each of
us. Call out for guidance and wisdom to walk you through whatever is in your path. Choose peace over
anger. Choose peace instead of stress. Spirit is always there, always listening. Make another choice.
"Today I am filled with the peace that passeth all understanding. Today I am at peace with the world
around me. I am surrounded by the blessings and holiness of all the universe. Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life." Until next month, be good to yourself, be good to others, and keep
spreading "The Light."
